 If Used Properly, a MUST HAVE for all Curly Girls Jul 10, 2012

Okay, let me start by saying that the first time I used this product, I hated it. I had just finished reading the book Curly Girl and was ecstatic to have a solution to my unruly curls that I've battled for years (think Merida from `Brave' kind of curls) Ditching shampoo for No-poo and piling my hair with conditioner already made a huge difference, so I was excited to try this product. Boy, was I disappointed. The smell was great, but it made my soft corkicelli curls sticky and tangled my hair.
Then, I was lucky enough to visit the Devachan Hair Salon in NYC, and WOW did it change my life. They taught me how to care for my curls properly and showed me the proper way to use the Hair Mist, and now it's one of my four main products, the other being the No-Poo, One Condition, and Arc Angell. Here's what you need to do in order to get the best use out of this product:
1- HAVE WELL HYDRATED CURLS. I can't stress this enough. This was my first mistake, I used this product the first time when my curls were still dry and damaged from years of chemical straightners, drying synthetic hair products, and blow drying. Once I learned how much conditioner my hair needs to stay hydrated, Deva Hair Mist did wonders. It's not meant for dry curls.
2- SPRAY AND SCRUNCH. The proper way to apply this product to your curls to revive them and eliminate the pillow frizz in the morning is to hold the Mist about eight inches away from you hair, and AS YOU SPRAY, gently scrunch your curls up toward your scalp. With well hydrated curls, you will be able to tell when to stop using the spray because your hair looks awesome and refreshed.
3- NON-CURLS FRIENDLY-ISH. I've had crazy curls, but my sister has long thick straight hair and she steals this all the time from me. According to her, it works excellent as a dry shampoo. She sprays it on her roots and uses it for spot cleaning. So if you have wavy or straight hair, try and use only for your roots, as I'm told it doesn't work as well when used on the full head.
Also Deva Hair Mist is excellent when you have that itchy spot in a random place on your head and you don't want to disturb the shape and layout of your curls. Just spray a little on the spot where it itches and rub lightly with the pad of your finger. DO NOT use your nails.
I hope this helps anyone struggling with their curls and how to use this product. It's a staple at my house now, and I use it every day. I introduced some of my fellow curly girls to it and they loved it once I showed them how to use it. Don't let one bad experience ruin it for you, because it really is a superior product.

This product is no exception. I became a DevaCurl convert last year and have not looked back. I use this spray to un-frizz my somewhat frizzy bed-headed self on the days when I don't wash my hair. I mist a bunch of this on my shoulder length + curls, then do the rock and roll head-banger type thrash of my hair, and that sticks the curls back together and eliminates most of the frizzies, leaving me with some nice, chunky, lavender scented locks. I do agree with another review that if you use too much of this, it will give your hair a bit of a funny sticky feeling, but I really have to over-do it for that to happen. I do use all the other DevaCurl products as well, so maybe that is why I love this product too - they all seem to work well together.

I never write reviews, but this product was worth the time. I'm a Caucasian girl with fine, color treated hair and when I don't scrunch my hair over and over my hair falls straight in other places and semi wavy in others. Recently I've been scrunching and scrunching, spraying with wAter, scrunching, repeat repeat repeat. I personally was having a terrible time keeping my wavy curls with just water or any target/grocery store creams or spray. I stumbled upon this product at a different store and when I sprayed the tester on my hair I auto automatically loved it! It's not sticky if you don't use a ton, and when I've oversprayed the stickiness went away when it dried. I'm the type that doesn't believe in spending so much money for hair products normally, but this is one thing will definitely continue to to splurge on. For me it was NOWHERE near the same effect as just water. My hair reacted and was much more curly then usual and literally felt like I had nothing in my hair once it dried, the movability is awesome.

I use two items from Devacurl line, one-condition and this mist. The smell is light and herbal. I can spray my hair anytime of the day, style with my fingers and let dry. It looks perfect without any frizz! You can use a little or a lot.

I have curly/wavy hair that is also fine. I purchased this product to use on non-shampoo days to give me a lift. It left my hair feeling sticky and didnt really do much deoderizing. It does have a strong lavender scent though. I would not use this product again. I think this product would be good for someone who has very thick curly hair.
